Take the time to be kind
As I read all of the stories employees past and present are sharing about Blake and remember the opportunities I had to meet him over my 16 years at Nordstrom it is clear what stands out again and again. Blake took the time to know his employees, to show them kindness, to appreciate and thank them. He lived the inverted pyramid by recognizing employees in the back of house and front of house. He was humble. He always had time for a photo, to listen to your question and that makes people feel valued.
These traits and characteristics are what sets him apart as a great leader. His passing has made me reflect on my own behavior and realize we can all take the time to be kind to those we work with.
Many thanks,
